The exterior architecture of buildings is considered the mirror that reflects all aspects of life
(social, economic, political, cultural, and environmental) in every era.

The American architect “Sullivan” once said: *Form follows function*,
a principle of modern architecture that is also applied in our Arab environment
through four main elements:

  • The exterior design must harmonize with the surrounding environment and its prominent features.
  • The design should allow visitors to enjoy natural views through simplicity and wide openings for maximum visibility.
  • Use of calm colors in facades to match the natural environment such as sand, rocks, and the sea.
  • Due to high temperatures, reflective colors are used to deflect sunlight.

In Gulf Arabic architecture, the external features of a building are divided into physical and sensory attributes:

First: The physical attributes of the building include:

– Architectural elements such as (openings: doors, windows, balconies – longitudinal, transverse, wide, or narrow)

(Arches: Umayyad – Abbasid – Fatimid – Andalusian – Ottoman – European)

(Mashrabiyas)

(Columns)

(Ornamentation)

– Architectural compositions such as (large or small masses – horizontal and vertical)

– Roofs such as (domes – sloped – free – gabled)

Second: The sensory attributes of the building include:

– Beauty

– Harmony

– Character

– Unity

– Balance

There are also external influences that inevitably affect the building’s outer qualities
and are subject to change, such as:

– Exterior paint colors

– Cladding materials for the building facade

Additionally, internal building characteristics are reflected in the function of the structure,
such as: healthcare buildings – administrative buildings – residential buildings – commercial buildings – cultural buildings.

All the above can be summarized by the impression of a passing guest saying, for example:
“Most beautiful palace.”
Although short, the word *beautiful* reflects the external features of the building (elements, composition, feeling),
while the word *palace* reflects the internal function, which is residential.

Ashpilia Arts works in the field of building facade finishing using GRC decorative units.
These allow for the creation of beautiful facades with artistic designs and precise finishing.
Columns can be clad with shell units of classical styles in various designs, as well as cornices, fences,
or detailed ornaments assembled as complete facades—without adding structural loads on the building.
GRC is also used for interior decoration and suspended ceilings.
